MADEMOISELLE CAPET SETS A RECORD
"Analyzed at length in the Gazette n° 5 (page 20), the Self-portrait of the artist in the studio, painted by Marie-Gabrielle Capet, was at the centre of an auction battle like few others. In front of a packed house, after a start by fifteen international telephones, a duel ended with a bid of €403,000 from a French collector on Thursday 15 February in Nice. This makes our work an all-time record for a work by Capet (source: Artnet)... based on a high estimate of €20,000. Remember that this is a partial, autograph reproduction of a larger painting, a group scene entitled Madame Labille-Guiard executing the portrait of the painter Vien, now in the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
