Persian calligraphy on paper, mounted on a green-framed album page decorated with gold scrolls. The text gives a poetic quatrain by Orfi Chirazi* (1555-1591), written at an angle, in nasta'liq in black ink in reserve jagged clouds on a gilded background. Signature at the bottom of the page indicating the calligrapher's name "Mohammad Ali". (soiling) Size: 35.5 x 23 cm *Jamāl-al-Din Moḥammad Sidi (1555-1591) known by his pen name Orfi Chirazi. Born in Shiraz, he emigrated to India in his youth and became one of the court poets of Akbar the Great. He is one of the most famous Persian poets in the Indian style.
