Rare account of a pilgrimage to Mecca by a woman

Souvenirs d'une pèlerine, le hajj, la umra, la visite à Medine heure par heure, Self-published, Sfax, 1988.

Paperback, 278 pages, 3 illustrations. An account of the 1986 pilgrimage to Mecca by Samia Amar Buattour, a Tunisian writer and poet. Women's accounts are rare, and the author's female point of view enables us to appreciate the pilgrimage from different angles, given the restrictions (being accompanied) and particular conditions (Ihram, stages of the Hajj...) that apply to women and are different for men. This account can be compared with that of Lady Evelyn Zainab Cobbold (1867-1963), a British convert who went to Mecca in 1933, and author of the first female account of the pilgrimage. (cf. lot 47). Memories of a pilgrim woman, the Hajj, the Umra, the visit to Medina hour by hour, Self-published, Sfax, 1988. A rare account of a pilgrimage to Mecca given by a woman
