Ottoman Empire, 19th century

Pink satin embroidered with gold thread, decorated with floral scrolls developing around a central bouquet. Collar and sleeves adorned with white lace (Wear). H. 135 x 44 cm (at shoulders) Ottoman women wore both indoor and outdoor dresses. During the 19th century, with the development of relations with Europe, Istanbul women began to use imported European textiles. This entari (dress) is in the bindallı style (dress with flowers embroidered on the branches) with garlands and flowers in vases embroidered in the dival technique (gold or silver embroidery on velvet) using gold silver thread.
