  • Description

Gooseneck bottle

Iran, circa 1750-1850

Blown and molded blue monochrome glass. The footed body is spherical and extends into a bulbous body, a long sinuous neck opened by a flared neck. H. 35.5 cm This object, often described as a sprinkler, seems more compatible with use as a wine decanter, whose tormented shape would evoke drunkenness. Comparable works : Musée du Louvre. Inv. AD 23863, and AD 535, reproduced in "L'Empire des roses, chefs d'oeuvre de l'art persan du XIXe siècle", G. Fellinger, H. Chidiac, ed. Snoeck Gent, 2018, n°313. Provenance: Jean-Charles Tauzin Collection (1889-1957) A swan-neck glass bottle, Iran, circa 1750-1850
