Miniature illustrating an episode from a Shahnameh by Firdowsi. In a landscape, in front of a fortress, Foroud, receiving the fatal blow, lies on the ground, his head resting on his mother's lap, accompanied by his wife and a servant, and Bijan standing at his feet. In the foreground, the soldiers and Foroud's horse, without its rider, observe the scene. Polychrome and gold gouache on paper, surmounted by a sarlowh, giving the title of the episode, inscribed in black ink in nasta'aliq in a medallion on a gilded background, with blue margins also with gilded scrolls. Bordered by a floral band on the margins. (Frame, stains, chips) Frame: 36.5 x 25.3; Miniature: 22.9 x 14 cm ATTACHED: two sheets of Persian poetic manuscripts.
