Miniature painted in gouache, extracted from a Nezami manuscript, surmounted by a polychrome illuminated frontispiece, mounted as an album page with gilded margins on a celadon green ground. Labels on the back of the frame, indicating a sale passage number 227, and a price of £2,000. Page: 32 x 20 cm Painting : 12.2 x 12 cm This painting from a Haft Paykar or Seven Portraits of the Khamsa by Nezami is set in a frontispiece with a scalloped cartouche richly decorated in polychrome and gold, embellished with gilded foliage margins. The sovereign Bahram Gur and the Chinese princess Yaghma-naz can be seen drinking while seated on a carpet in an alcove, just before the princess's long narrative. This miniature, which is fairly typical of Mughal pictorial art under Emperor Akbar, should be compared with the illustrations on a copy of Kashfi's Anvar-i Suhayli, produced at the same time in Agra and now in the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin (In 04). Bahram Gur and the King of China's daughter spend time in the sandalwood pavilion, Lahore (?), Mughal India, during the reign of the Emperor Akbar, circa 1590-1600
