Ottoman Turkey, dated 1267H./1850

Arabic calligraphy in black ink on paper, pasted onto an album page with beige margins and golden floral scrolls. On a gold-stitched background, composed of four lines of text: the first a religious quotation in thuluth, followed by three others in naskhi in jagged clouds in reserve on a green background, framed by two floral cartouches; and ending with a cartouche that gives the name of the master calligrapher "al-Shaykh al-Sayyid Muhammad Amin (Mehmed Emin)", and the name of the graduate "Muhammad (Mehmed) 'Ata , known as Hajji Yunus-zade". (Framed, missing margins, stains). Dim. frame: 23 x 29 cm; Dim. calligraphy sighted: 19 x 24 cm Provenance : Private collection, Paris. An icazet (calligrapher's diploma), granted to Muhammad (Mehmed) 'Ata, known as Hajji Yunus-zade, granted by al-Shaykh al-Sayyid Muhammad Amin (Mehmed Emin) on 21 Dhu'l-Hijja [1]267 (17 October 1851)
