Arabian Peninsula dagger

Oman or Yemen, early 20th century

A fine horn handle decorated with silver studs and two coins, the gold-inlaid guard with four-petal flower motif, with a strong double-edged steel blade and central edge. The scabbard and belt bear the same decorative elements of gilded silver and gold-inlaid metal plates in koftgari. These are adorned with flowers, fleurons and arabesques, as well as openwork Arabic inscriptions in elegant "naskh". Leather belt embroidered with metallic threads and silk.
