Red velvet embroidered with gold and silver thread on wadding and sequins, accented with green silk thread, fringed border, Ikat lining. The lower part is decorated with a symmetrical motif of pomegranate and tulip flowers amid leafy arabesques. (Small tears). 135 x 190 cm (at widest) This type of blanket was placed under the saddle, with the flared sides covering the horse's back and sides. They were luxury items, a sign of high social status. Felt chabraques were designed for everyday use, while this one, made of rich fabrics and ornamental elements, was intended for ceremonial use. In this way, the horse's silhouette, and consequently the rider who owned it, was highlighted, proclaiming his rank and wealth. Related work : Musée des Beaux Arts de Lyon, Inv.
