Large ceremonial bowl (Taïno)

Circular in shape and standing on four feet, it is carved with a stylized mythological turtle, considered by the Taïnos to be the origin of their ancestral land. The circumference is decorated with a symbolic motif engraved with regularity and balance. Speckled green hard stone, carved and polished, a few small scattered microcracks, internal marks of age and use, some fine traces of old oxidation. Taïno, Greater Antilles, 800-1500 A.D. 14 x 60 cm This bowl is distinguished by its proportions, the quality of the stone and the beauty of its forms. A scientific analysis by the CIRAM laboratory concluding that this piece is authentic will be provided to the purchaser.
